Demanding job security for thousands of guest lecturers working in degree colleges, members of the Guest Lecturers Coordination Committee began an indefinite stir in Mandya on Tuesday.

The protesters alleged that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who had promised to provide job security to the guest faculty in the poll manifesto, has failed to take any measures in this regard. Stating that the Delhi government, which has provided job security to around 17,000 guest lecturers recently, the government should make an announcement in this regard before the Belagavi Session of the Assembly ends, they said.

The members explained that more than 13,000 lecturers, working in 411 first grade colleges, are facing a bleak future as the government has plans to appoint 3,000 new lecturers, neglecting their service so far. The guest faculty are yet to get salaries for the last semester. The government should immediately release the salaries, they demanded.
