Hassan milk federation president H D Revanna said out of 13 milk producers federation in the State, only Hassan and Mangalore have made profits, while the other 11 federations are running under a loss.

Speaking after inaugurating a programme to address public grievances, organised by Hassan cooperative milk producers in Hassan recently, he flayed the State government for its negligence that has resulted in Rs 90 crore loss faced by the Karnataka Milk federation’s fodder unit.

Revanna said that the price of fodder was fixed at Rs 7,000 per ton during his tenure as the chairman of Karnataka Milk Federation. Though the current price is at Rs 20,000 per tonne, the unit has incurred Rs 90 crore losses, he said.

The government had failed to purchase the necessary raw materials for the federation. The responsibility of marketing should be given to the respective units. With the private factories raising its head it has affected the federation, Revanna lamented. Hassan milk federation had a turnover of Rs 11 crore in the initial days and it has increased to Rs 550 crore now. The milk production which was 30,000 litres has increased to five lakh litres for the current year.The federation comprises 1,259 societies and is expected to touch 2,000 for the year 2013-14, he assured.
