Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday asserted that he had done “nothing wrong” even as the high court permitted him to withdraw his petition challenging the previous BJP government’s sanction to the CBI to probe his assets.

While declining to comment on Wednesday’s high court order, Shivakumar told media persons that he was not in the wrong. “I do not want to comment on court matters without going through the order,” he said.

However, on the CBI inquiry against him in the alleged disproportionate assets case, the sanction for which the state Cabinet withdrew recently, Shivakumar said he was targeted because he stood by his party.

“I was given all this trouble because I stood by my party. But, the people have given a befitting reply to the troubles given to me by vested interests. I am grateful to all those who have stood by me,” he said.

Commenting on Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal’s appeal in the high court against him, Shivakumar said he would respond to people’s comments and actions when the time was ripe for it.

‘No place for first-timers’

First-time lawmakers will not be appointed to boards and corporations, he said.

Shivakumar, who is also the Karnataka Congress president, said that the party workers would be considered in the second phase.

“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and I have finalised the list. Surjewala has taken the list to the high command. The Telangana election campaign ended Wednesday. The list will be released soon,” Shivakumar said.
