With an eye on improving waste management in the city, the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) is planning to install a computer controlled chip in each house, which would indicate if garbage has been collected.

This is one of the schemes being planned by MCC as part of ‘Vision-2020’. An RFID reader would be installed in each house and would record if the garbage has been collected.

The plan was disclosed by JnNURM engineer Suresh Babu at a seminar on ‘Vision 2020’ organised by Alert Citizens Team at Rani Bahadur Auditorium here on Wednesday.

City waste

Babu said the city generates 400 tonnes of waste each day and only 250 tonne is being processed. In order to do away with complaints by residents about irregular arrival of waste collection units, the MCC is planning to install the chip, which would ensure that garbage is collected from all houses.

A tender would be called within a week, he added.

Water supply

Speaking about water supply, he said 190MLD drinking water is supplied to the city and is reaching nine lakh population.

Work on water supply project from Kabini is underway. Once completed, it would supply 60 MLD.

Projects are being undertaken to provide good quality roads, drainage system, adequate drinking water and streetlights.

A proposal to open a modern slaughterhouse at a cost of Rs 33 crore has been sent to the central government.

Heritage houses

Also, 200 heritage houses have been identified in the city, which would be renovated in phases.

Parking complex, solar city project, saltwater aquarium have also been planned.

Under a PPP model, 100 tonne biogas plant would also be opened, he added.

Shivalingappa, Shalini Urs, Prof K S Nagapathi, Arunkumar, police commissioner K L Sudheer, Alert Citizens Team member Srihari, president Prof Shivaram Malavalli and others were present.
