High Court judge justice Aravind Kumar on Saturday said that the Karnataka State Legal Service Authority recommended Rs 4,500 monthly pension and five acre land to devadasis for their rehabilitation.
He was referring to a proposal seeking enhancement of monthly pension to devadasi at a legal awareness programme for devadasis. Devadasis had submitted a memorandum seeking to increase their monthly allowance to
Rs 3,000.
“There is a need to frame a legislation to use the term ‘aggrieved woman’ instead of devadasi. Private firms should donate funds under corporate social responsibility for the eradication of the devadasi practice,” he said.
