Murugesh alias Murug alias Kannamuchi, a death sentence convict who'd escaped from high-security Hindalga Central Prison on Monday, has remained untraceable.

Chamarajanagar Session Court had awarded death sentence to Murugesh for murdering five persons, including an eight-year-old at Harale village in Kollegal taluk on May 11, 2015.

It is said, Murugesh was a close aide of forest brigand Veerappan.

Jailor Shushma Shahpurkar, ASI and two constables have been suspended for dereliction of duty.

Chief Superintendent of Hindalga Prison T P Shesha told DH, "Five teams have been formed to trace the death convict. Teams have been sent to Goa, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu to search the jail-breaker. We have shared necessary information with all the police stations in the state. Murugesh was wanted in several criminal cases. Hence, we have taken the matter seriously."
