Mysuru: As the countdown begins for the world famous Mysuru Dasara Jamboo Savari procession, the idol of Goddess Sri Chamundeshwari devi which will be taken in the Dasara procession was brought from Chamundi hill to Mysuru Palace in a mini procession on Saturday morning.

The Goddess was adorned in royal blue Mysore silk saree specially weaved by KSIC for the Goddess and bought by Mysuru Dasara Executive Committee led by Mysuru district in-charge minister H C Mahadevappa and Mysuru DC G Lakshmikanth Reddy. Decorated with flowers in Ashwarohi Durga Alankaara, the idol of Goddess was offered special puja by chief priest of Chamundi Hill Sri Shashishekar Dixit, before the procession began around 8.30 am.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will offer floral obeisance to the Goddess housed in the 750 kg golden howdah, carried by Dasara veteran elephant Abhimanyu between 4 pm and 4.30 pm during Kumbha lagna, from a podium in front of the Palace.

Secretary of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple Development Authority M J Roopa accompanied the idol. She will hand it over to Mysuru district administration at Palace premises in a while.

Amid the tunes of Nadaswara, Saxophone, Vedaghosha, folk cultural troupes Chandevaadana, Veerabhadra Kunitha, Pooja Kunitha featured the mini procession. Mounted cops accompanied them. The procession passed via Kurubaralli Circle, Lalitha Mahal Palace Road, Ittigegoodu (Indira nagar) and will reach the Palace through Jayamarthanda gate. People lined up on either side of the road to have a glimpse of the idol of Goddess and offered obeisance to her. Meanwhile puja was offered near Sri Sathyanarayana Swamy temple in Ittigegoodu.

After a pooja, the idol will be housed after the howdah is tied to Abhimanyu after the procession begins between 1.41 pm and 2.10 pm during Makara lagna.

The idol of Goddess kept at Gombe Thotti of Mysuru Palace was handed over by Palace Board Deputy Director T S Subramanya to Secretary of Sri Chamundeshwari Temple Development Authority M J Roopa on September 16 and it was taken to Chamundi Hill for Dasara inauguration. Writer and recipient of Nadoja award Hampa Nagarajaiah launched Dasara by lighting lamp before this idol of the Goddess atop Chamundi hill on October 3.
