Speaking at an interaction on Thursday, he said in cases where the private sector works in areas of public interest, they should be looked into by the Lokpal.
Chandrashekar was presenting his suggestions on the Jan Lokpal Bill, along with freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, Prof M K Ramesh and Prof Sairam Bhat from National Law School, Bangalore.
The group proposed that the prime minister must be part of the collegium that elects the Lokpal. “We want a uniform process when it comes to the appointment of the Lokpal, CAG, and CVC,” said Bhat. The group also argued that there must be a clear cut definition of the functions of the CAG, the CVC, the Lokpal and the CBI.
The group also decried the measure to instill powers of investigation, prosecution and adjudication in a single body. “Civil society groups should study the Lokayukta bills of Maharashtra and Karnataka as a model,” Ramesh said.
The group also raised doubts about the proposal to provide Lokpal, a quasi-judicial body, with contempt powers.
