Hampi Kannada University Vice Chancellor Mallika Ghanti on Friday dismissed the reports that she had applied for the top job of the 27-year-old varsity.
"I have not applied for Kannada University VC post. However, If the government wants me to continue in the office, I am up for it. But I will not ask for the second term," she told DH.
"Siddalingaiah, a Syndicate member of Kannada University, had seen my work as VC of the varsity. So, he might have proposed my name for the post during the search committee meeting," Prof Mallika Ghanti said.
"During a programme organised by Kannada University recently, the first VC of the varsity Chandrashekar Kambara commended me for my good work. A few professors met Kambara and requested him to impress upon the government to retain me for the second term. But I have not pleaded anyone for the second term, she explained.
DH had carried a report on Dec 4 'Search committee meeting ended in stalemate as members spar over Mallika Ghanti'. During the meeting, a member proposed her name while another opposed it saying she had applied for the post after December-15 deadline and hence not eligible.
