Jayadeva Institute of Cardio Vascular Sciences and Research became the first government institute in the State to receive the NABH accreditation.

The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation means better patient care, standard and quality treatment. The Institute had sought the accreditation two and a half years ago and after introducing various changes, they were awarded the same.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Dr C N Manjunath, director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardio Vascular Sciences and Research said three NABH co-ordinators have been appointed by the institute to review happenings. Besides, half yearly or yearly surprise inspections will be carried out, he said.

“In the process of meeting standards sought for the accreditation, a lot of facilities in the institute were upgraded. The accreditation means that the institute has met all the standards of quality care. It gives the institute a status of excellence,” he said.

The institute is also expected to follow a set of guidelines. Dr Manjunath explained that having a uniform antibiotic policy and treatment protocol and ensuring fire-safety measures are in place are among the few guidelines to be followed. “The procedure of maintaining in-patient records was completely modified. With the uniform treatment protocol, the doctors on duty should keep track of every procedure that has been followed,” he said.

Committees were set up for blood transfusion and safety, calibrations and validation of the medical equipments must also be done periodically. The institute is expected to conduct review meetings every month regarding mortality and success rates as well.

NABH

The NABH is a constituent board of Quality Council of India. It is an Institutional Member as well as a Board Member of the International Society for Quality in Health Care. The board is structured to cater to the needs of consumers and to set benchmarks for progress in the health industry.
