The government on Wednesday issued an order for compensation to those who have suffered losses to properties in the incessant rains that have lashed the state.
Accordingly, the Revenue Department ordered that a compensation of Rs 10,000 will be provided to those homes that have been flooded in the rains and where people have lost household items owing to it.
The government will give up to Rs 5 lakh for houses that have suffered more than 75% damage, Rs 3 lakh (25-75%) and Rs 50,000 for partially damaged houses (15-25%).
Meanwhile, demanding the government to give a compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre loss of crops, KPCC president D K Shivakumar lashed out at the state government for paying only "lip service" when it comes to helping farmers who have suffered losses.
Drawing a comparison with the Covid-19 compensation, Shivakumar said the government had failed to do justice even there. "How much compensation has been given so far? Which accounts has the money gone to? The government must provide details," he demanded.
Farmers who lost lives during the protests near Delhi against the Centre's farm laws should be declared "martyrs" and provided five acres of land for free to such families, Shivakumar demanded.
