Birthday wishes poured in from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent leaders, as Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa turned 78 on Thursday.

In a tweet, Modi hailed 'Karnataka's hardworking CM', 'passionately working for the state's progress'. "I pray for his long life and good health", he wrote.

"Birthday greetings to Karnataka's hardworking CM @BSYBJP Ji. He is passionately working for the state's progress, especially on farmer welfare and rural development. I pray for his long life and good health," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP national president JP Nadda, Women and Child Development, and Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda, were among the other prominent central leaders with best wishes for the Karnataka CM.

Later in the day, the BS Yediyurappa Abhinanadana Samiti will hold an event to celebrate the CMs 78th birthday at Palace Grounds, in which Rajnath Singh, former chief minister's Siddaramaiah and HD Kumaraswamy, BJP national general secretary (organisation), BL Santosh and others will take part.
