He was speaking after holding a high-level review meeting at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) with the heads of government teaching hospitals and officials of the medical education department to identify measures to strengthen security in these institutions in the aftermath of the recent rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata. Resident doctors, faculty, and senior doctors were also present at the meeting to voice their concerns and request for additional safety measures.

Dr Patil assured the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of women doctors, including taking measures to improve safety in women’s restrooms and stringent action against perpetrators of violence and noted that all measures would be in line with guidelines set by the Central Government and the Supreme Court.

Taking stock of the measures already in place in these institutions to address safety concerns, he stressed that PoSH committees and other grievance redressal bodies will actively address any concerns raised by employees and students in these medical institutions.
