Municipal Administration Minister and three-time MLA from Kundgol constituency C S Shivalli (57) passed away here on Friday, due to cardiac arrest.
When Shivalli experienced uneasiness in the afternoon, doctors of the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (Kims) rushed to his residence at Madani Colony at JP Nagar. After giving first aid, doctors shifted him to nearby Lifeline Hospital on Gokul Road, as he became unresponsive. A severe heart attack claimed his life, though treatment was started, doctors said, adding that he had heart problem and diabetes also.
Shivalli is survived by wife Kusuma, daughters Roopa, Deepa and son Amarashiva.
As soon as the news of his death spread, a large number of his admirers gathered at the hospital. They were inconsolable when his body was being shifted to the ambulance.
The mortal remains were kept at his residence for public viewing till evening and later was taken in a procession to Kundgol, where people can pay tributes to him till Saturday morning. His last rites will be held at his birthplace Yaraguppi in Kundgol taluk on Saturday afternoon.
Congress leaders stated that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao, former chief minister Siddaramaiah and other leaders are expected to visit on Saturday.
Career
Channabasappa Satyappa Shivalli became a minister for the first time, in December, becoming the first and only minister from Dharwad district after the coalition government came to power.
In the previous government, he was the chief minister's parliamentary secretary. By winning the 2013 and 2018 elections as a Congress candidate, he had a record of becoming the only MLA being re-elected for the second term in last five decades from Kundgol constituency.
In the 1999 elections, he was elected as an independent candidate. He had also tasted defeat in 1994, 2004 and 2008 elections. He was a follower of former chief minister S Bangarappa and he hailed from a farming family. He was known for his down to earth attitude and easy accessibility for people.
