With sugarcane growers up in arms, the farmers’ wing of the Karnataka Congress on Monday wrote to seven party leaders who own sugar factories, asking them to clear farmers' dues.

The Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), shot off a letter to Congress leaders Ramesh Jarkiholi, Satish Jarkiholi, Shrimant Patil, S R Patil, S S Mallikarjun, Anand Nyamagouda and S S Malagam.

“We are aware that you face several constraints in running sugar factories. But under the given circumstances, farmers should get priority and you are requested to clear their dues,” Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress President Sachin Meega stated in the letter.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has convened a meeting of cane growers and sugar factories on Tuesday.
