Kundapur lad to represent State in IVL tourney

The players from Kundapur have brought laurels to Railway, Telecom and various other prestigious teams.

There is a huge list of volleyball players from Kundapur in Mangalore University volleyball team. Govind Kharvy, Vasudev Kharvy, Rajesh Cauvery, present volleyball team captain Mohommad Sameer are all from Kundapur.

Senior coaches like Jayananda Kharvy, Ramananda K alias Bala, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Sarfaraz Nawaz have made their presence felt at the national-level. The teams like Ashok Friends, Kundapur Friends, Golden Millers, Bidkalkatte Friends, Uppinakudru Friends, Jeevan Friends, Navunda team have left a deep impression on the minds of the people.

Players like Babu Nambiar, Chandramauli, Mahesh Kundapur, Vishwanath Engineer, Late Manjiah Master, Devadas Hegde, Krishna, Gangadhar Hemmadi, Ramu Hegde, Govardhan Kharvy, Ashok Madiyar, Nagesh Aithal, Manjunath Sherugar, Haladi Ramesh Shetty, Pradeep Shetty Bidkalkatte, Chandresh Shetty and Ilyas are some of the players that people even today look up to.

After nurturing this game for decade, Kundapur has a new name called Anup D’Costa, which is making rounds in the volleyball players circles.

After noticing the new innovations happening in cricket field, Indian Volleyball Federation thought of some innovations too. This has led the Federation to start something called ‘IVL’ on the lines of Circket ‘IPL’.

Now, Anup D’Costa from Kundapur will represent a team called ‘Karnataka Bull’ in the IVL series. He had played for Ashok Friends team.

Anup is the son of Anthony D’Costa (a Mescom employee in Kundapur) from Shimoga and Geetha. He is an old student of St Mary’s High School. Anup is pursuing his final BBM at Al-Ameen College in Bangalore.

His active involvement in sports hostel brought him to the notice of famous coach Krishne Gowda. Since then, Anup has not stopped. He has played for Indian team in Iran, Thailand, Junior India test match, Senior India Asian cup etc.

He has been playing in the state team for the last three years and has made himself recognised as one of the best smashers of the team.

Since the IVL will start on May 29, people from Kundapur are hoping to see a fantastic show from Anup.
