The bund of Biligunda lake in Nagamangala taluk that was opened to take up repair works has damaged crops in the region.

The negligence of the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam (CNN) officials in taking up repair works on Biligunda lake without giving prior information to the farmers has resulted in huge loss of crops in the taluk.

The officials, who opened the bund without giving prior information, have irked the residents of Garudanahalli, Biligunda, Bettadakote and surrounding villages, who have already invested thousands of rupees for sowing and other activities. Hundreds of acres of land in the region have been inundated.

The farmers of the region are shocked due to the negligence of the officials. They said that the repair works on the dilapidated lake could have been taken up when the water level is less or after harvesting of the crops.

The farmers had grown ragi, chick pea and other crops and had spent thousands of rupees on fertilisers. If the officials fail to provide suitable compensation to the crop loss or set right the land, protests would be launched soon, they warned.
