Lightning struck two persons dead, as rainfall, accompanied by hailstorm, continued to lash a few districts of North Karnataka region on Saturday.

Shivalingaiah Siddaiah Hiremath, 28, of Chikkatadasi village in Ramdurg taluk, Belgaum district, was returning home from his fields when lightning struck him dead. Shivanagouda Basappa Goudar, 17, an ITI student, was in the fields when he was struck dead by lightning at Siddanagavi village in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district.

Bagalkot district received heavy rainfall, accompanied by hailstorm, on Saturday evening. Amrut Shah, 35, suffered serious injuries after a huge hailstone hit him on his head at Kadapatti village in Jamkhandi taluk. Ramesh Kishori, belonging to the same village, also received injuries, after a hailstone hit his eye. Reports on agriculture and horticulture crops being damaged have been received from the district.

Bijapur district received continuous rainfall for four hours on Friday night. Doni river in Talikote town is in spate and is flowing above the bridge. Traffic flow was hindered for sometime due to the inundation of the bridge.

A few taluks of Dharwad and Haveri districts have also received good rainfall.
