The Excise Department officials on Tuesday seized a huge quantity of liquor that was being transported to Wayanad in Kerala.
The officials arrested Shankar and Suresh and seized 2,615 litres of liquor worth Rs 9 lakh.
Along with liquor from Goa, there was illicit liquor in bottles without any labels that were being transported to Kerala. Fake stickers of VRL logistics were pasted on the bottles, said Excise Department Deputy Commissioner Veeranna Bagewadi.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials conducted a raid at Gonikoppa check post at 4 am. Samples of the seized illicit liquor have been sent for testing in a laboratory.
There was a separate compartment in the lorry where liquor was stored.
Veeranna said, "A task force was constituted to check illegal transportation of liquor to Kerala. We were on high alert at all the check posts from the last week."
Meanwhile, the officials have seized Rs 6.31 lakh cash that was being transported without any valid documents, at Koppa check post in Kushalnagar.
The cash was being transported by Santosh and Jeevan of Kerala in a jeep.
