The engineer C R Bellary had demanded Rs 5.25 lakh from the Contractor B L Kulakarni but later settled for Rs three lakh, the Lokayukta release said. On a complaint filed by the contractor, the Lokayukta police laid the trap and arrested Bellary while he received the cash,it said.
The official's house was raided by Lokayukta police in 2008 while he was posted in Haveri during which huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income was seized, the release said. The Lokayukta has filed a chargesheet against Bellary and the case is being tried in a court, it said.
