Special officer of the newly formed Mandya University M S Mahadeva Nayak said that courses that provided employments to students would be offered from academic year 2019-20.
Speaking at the special meeting of the College Development Committee, he said:“Mandya University will function independently under the University Grants Commission (UGC). Courses that help students to get jobs will be started as per the UGC objectives.”
“Efforts will be made to develop the varsity as a model university. All divisions required for the model university will be opened. While the Centre is providing 65% funds, the State will release 35% funds. Along with traditional courses, priority will be for research-oriented courses. Students joining the first year can study the new courses,” he said.
College Development Committee president and MLA M Srinivas said that the long-pending demand to upgrade the government college as a university has been realised.
“The college is given the university status keeping in mind social, financial and educational prospects,” he said.
