Mangalore Uni to start certificate, PG diploma through correspondence course

The Academic Council of the Mangalore University has approved the regulations governing certificate programmes and PG diploma programmes through correspondence. 

Chairing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa said that the certificate courses to be introduced are certificate programme in soft skills and certificate programme in environment management and technology. 

Candidates who have passed PUC conducted by the Pre University Education Board or any other examinations considered as equivalent thereto are eligible for the admission. The duration of the course is six months. The candidates should complete the programme within two years. 

The PG diploma courses to be introduced are PG diploma in mass communication, marketing management, financial management, business law, human resource development, human resource management, business administration, information technology, computer application, tourism management, nd fitness and sports management.

The candidates who have passed any bachelors degree examination of Mangalore University or other university considered equivalent to the Mangalore University are eligible for admission to the PG diploma programmes. The duration of the course is one year. 

The VC said that these certificate courses can also be an ad-on course for the PG students. The university can think of giving weightage to the PG diploma holders while admission to the PG courses related to the PG diploma courses.
  PhD regulation

The council also gave its nod for the amendments to guidelines for implementation of regulation governing the degree of doctor philosophy. As per the amendements “the senior scientists who are working in reputed research institutions are exempted from course work. The rule on part-time researchers allowed to complete the course work in two semesters has been removed.”

“A full time employee of any organisation/study centre/research centres shall be eligible to work on part time basis only. However, these candidates are required to undertake the course work conducted by the university. The guest faculty working in the university are eligible to carry out research leading to PhD. The foreign students are exempted from the entrance test.

The students from non English speaking courses shall undergo English speaking courses as recommended by the supervisor. The result of the entrance test is valid for two years.” 

The VC said that the university will issue a circular to all the college principals and management to give permission for the lecturers to take up course work of the PhD  programme on Saturdays. 

The Council also approved the proposal to merge Dr N S A M First Grade College with the Nitte University from 2015-16. 

The council also gave its nod to institute Rs 10,000 cash award for highest scorer in microbiology in the name of Dr K R Sridhar cash prize.
