The MP, who is also the member of the central monitoring committee, took exception to the slow progress MGREGS at a review of the central sponsored programmes at meeting of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee at the ZP hall here.
Among the 7,650 projects approved for the year 2010-11 not a single programme has started so far. He asked the officials to begin the work from the first week of November, seeking to know how would the authorities be able to utilise the funds allocated in next five months.
The officials apprised him that about Rs 1 crore worth works were undertaken in Chamarajanagar taluk and Rs 1.8 lakh worth works in Yalandur taluk. Though, the work has been completed, the grant has not been released so far, executive officers said.
Dhruvanarayan said he would hold talks with the officer incharge of MGREGS in State for the release of funds for the works completed in 2009-10.
Sunder Nayak, chief executive officer of the Zilla Panchayat said the state body releases grant only when information of the projects completed were furnished to the Management of Information System(MIS).
He said the ZP had distributed 1.42 lakh job cards last year. This year, 91,432 cards are disbursed so far. Those did not approach for a card the second year are dropped fromthe list. “We have disbursed about Rs 9.10 crore since the job guarantee scheme began. In 2009-10, there was Rs 4.23 crore pending for release. The department has allocated Rs 10 crores this year,” he added.
DCF of Kollegal Narayanaswamy said that department implemented nursery development under the MGREGS. However, the department was yet to receive Rs 58 lakh. If the grant was released, it would help the planting of the saplings in about 240 hectartes in M M Hills, Dinnali, Huthuru and other places.
On the occasion, MLA Narendra objected to the demolition of the checkdam constructed across the River Cauvery inside the forests.
MP Dhruvanarayan asked the forest officials to write to irrigation department before going for demolition of any check dam walls.
Lift irrigation
He also asked the water resources department officials to fix a day for the inauguration of the Hoganuru lift irrigation as it was in finishing stage.
“The lift irrigation must be opened when there is water in canal. It will be inaugurated in next 15 days when there is availability of water in canal,” he said. He also asked the officials to expedite the work on providing basic amenities at Bharachukki. ZP president Muniraju, vice-president Shivakumar, MLAs Puttaranga Shetty, Narendra, Additional Deputy Commissioner M Nagaraju were present.
