Mining survey begins; to last two months

The survey team comprises technical experts from National Institute of Technology, Suratkal.
The task will be carried out with differential global positioning system and using the satellite imageries, Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas told reporters.

Four teams of experts will conduct the survey for two months. The survey, to be carried out in the presence of respective leaseholders, will be videographed. Officers of Mines and Geology, Revenue and Forest departments apart from a host of surveyors from other districts will carry out the task.

However, neither the members of the Central Empowered Committee nor any representative from the Lokayukta were seen on the first day. Sources said they may take part in the survey later on.

Police security

A curfew-like situation prevailed in Ramanamalai and Swamimalai as a posse of police personnel descended on the locations to provide security to the joint survey team. Mediapersons too were not allowed.
