MLAs, DVS, Moily flayed for water crisis

With Dakshina Kannada district, especially Mangaluru city, facing acute water crisis, the environmentalists have put up banners in different parts of the city and in the district, condemning the injustice meted out in the name of Yettinahole project.

The Yettinahole project is aimed at supplying water to parched districts.

In the banners, a warning has been issued to all the eight MLAs from Dakshina Kannada district— S Angara (Sullia), Sanjeeva Matandoor (Puttur), Harish Poonja (Belthangady), Umanath Kotian (Moodbidri), Dr Bharath Shetty (Mangaluru North), Vedavyasa Kamath (Mangaluru South), U T Khader (Mangaluru) and Rajesh Naik (Bantwal).

The banners have been mounted at Hampankatte, Pumpwell, Kottara and other areas in the city.

They have photographs of all the eight MLAs from the district and read, “The voters elected you not to roam in a car worth Rs 40 lakh. There is no water for the people of the district. The MLAs must sit on a dharna in front of Vidhana Soudha opposing the Yettinahole project. If not possible, tender your resignation and sit on fast unto death and prove that you are genuine Janasevaks.”

In another banner, there is a photo of ChikkaballapurMP Veerappa Moily and Union Minister Sadananda Gowda and it reads, “An attempt is made to destroy the lifeline of the district for a desire to claim commission from Rs 13,000 crore project.”

It further says that the people who are in deep slumber are welcoming Moily and Sadananda Gowda for making people drink recycled water. The banners also warn the city corporation to not clear the banner on Yettinahole.
