Fifty percent students, who wrote the test, were from outside Karnataka. According to M Prakash, Secretary of the Karnataka Private Post-Graduation Colleges’ Association (KPPGCA), 900 students were given on the spot registration this morning. KPPGCA also allowed the transfer of students from one centre to the other.

Attendance of students was high at test centres in Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, and Gulbarga, Dr Prakash said. Centres in Hubli, Shimoga, Udupi, etc had average attendance. Although KMAT is modelled on the Common Admission Test (CAT), most students found it “doable”. The question paper consisted of four sections – A, B, C, and D, with 40 questions each on mathematical skills, basic aptitude, logical reasoning, and language comprehension.

Students, who had applied for MBA as well as MCA courses, were required to attempt all the four sections. But those who applied only MBA or MCA had to attempt three sections or 120 questions. Candidates who applied only for MBA attempted A, B, and D sections, whereas those aspiring only for MCA took A, B, and C sections.

The test was held at 14 centres in Karnataka. Four of them were in Bangalore – Seshadripuram First Grade College, Yelahanka New Town, Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies, Hosur Road, City College, Jayanagar 7th Block, and Community Institute of Management Studies, Jayanagr 2nd Block.

Results in a week

The results would be announced within a week, Dr Prakash said. But no centralised counselling for admission will be held. Students can select seats at colleges of their choice, based on the rank list.

Dip in participating colleges

The number of participating colleges has come down from 153 to just 128. Initially, the KPPGCA declared that seats would be available at 148 colleges. Later, five new colleges were added. Still, the actual number of colleges came down to 128.

Dr Prakash said that five new colleges were removed from the list as they were yet to be affiliated with the respective universities. Besides, 20 other colleges had not submitted the consent forms and advertisement copies. Hence, the number was reduced to 128.
