Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met Union ministers Manoj Sinha and Rajen Gohain and urged them to take measures to upgrade Mangaluru Central Railway Station into international standards.

In a memorandum, the MP has urged the ministers to sanction Mangaluru railway division to benefit the people of coastal districts.

The work on the third and fourth platform at Mangaluru Central Railway Station should be accelerated. Along with sanctioning new building to the railway station, priority should be given for other basic infrastructure facilities, he said.

The work on doubling the track should be taken up on Subrahmanya- Sakleshpura line. The Subrahmanya Road Railway Station should be upgraded, he said and appealed to the minister to sanction eight RUB/ROB between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya.

Stating that measures should be taken to run Gomateshwara Express daily, he said Mangaluru-Madgaon inter-city train and Mangaluru-Mumbai super fast train should be introduced.

The MP said that Chamarajanagara-Tirupathi (16219/20) train should be extended to Mangaluru via Hassan. Amaravathi Express between Howrah-Vasco should be extended to Mangaluru via Mangaluru -Hubball-Dharwad-Hosapete-Ballari.

The Maveli Express between Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram should be extended to Kanyakumari, he demanded.

A Shatabdi Express train to Chennai from Mangaluru via Hassan should be sanctioned. The Mahalakshmi Express that was stopped during gauge conversion (Mangaluru-Hassan-Arasikere-Hubballi-Miraj) should be reintroduced.
