Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperon and State General Secretary Rajmohan Unnithan is the United Democratic Front candidate for Kasargod Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala.
Sixty three-year-old Unnithan, an orator, told DH that people were welcoming him even in the strong forte of CPM in Kasargod. “Voters are tired of murder and hate politics. I am confident of the victory in the constituency.”
What is your election campaign tactics?
“I have been taking part in the campaign meetings throughout the constituency. I have been trying to meet a large number of voters in the assembly constituencies, blocks and booths. I have completed two rounds of campaign by meeting the voters.”
For the first time, UDF has fielded an able candidate from Kasargod. What is your take on it?
I had been with the people throughout. When a Youth Congress leader was killed in Kasargod, a few days before the announcement of the election, I had visited Kasargod twice. People are tired of murders and political violence being resorted to by the CPM. To wipe the tears of the people and to put an end to political violence, UDF should win the election. People are my assets. I would like to spend time with the people of the constituency.
Is there a conducive environment for the victory of UDF?
Defintely. People are tired of anti-people policy of Modi. There is a conducive atmosphere for UDF candidates.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been speaking of good administration in the state. What do you say about it?.
In the last three years, the state has witnessed 22 political murders. CPM workers are accused in 18 cases. This is the achievement of the LDF government in Kerala. When Cyclone Ockhi wreaked havoc in Kerala, the state government did not come to the rescue of the people.
The amicus curiae, appointed by the Kerala High Court to assist it in flood-related cases, informed the court in its report that the sudden release of water simultaneously from different reservoirs during the heavy rain in August 2018 had aggravated the flood situation. A total of 450 people had lost their lives in the flood. Murder case should be booked against chief minister for the deaths occurred due to floods.
What is your plan for Kasargod if elected?
Sitting MP P Karunakaran has not brought any projects for the development of the constituency in the last 15 years. I will make an effort to set up an unit of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Medical college at Periya and will work towards the upliftment of HAL unit in Kasargod.
The work on Kanhangady-Kaniyoor railwayline, flyover at Manjeshwar and development of railway stations will be taken up. All efforts will be made to protect the interest of linguistic minorities and minorities in the constituency.
