District in-charge minister G T Devegowda has claimed that the JD(S) workers in Ubdur village of Chamuneshwari Assembly segment supported the BJP in the Lok Sabha election.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Devegowda said that while Congress workers voted for their candidate C H Vijayashankar, the JD(S) workers did not support Congress and voted for BJP nominee Prathap Simha in Udbur village, due to differences among them.
“Despite, myself and CLP leader Siddaramaiah speaking to JD(S) workers, they decided to support BJP at the last minute. There are two factions in Udbur and they do not listen to anyone. Except for Udbur, the coalition was a success in other areas and Vijayashankar will win the polls,” Devegowda said.
He also opined that there should not be a coalition for Lok Sabha elections. There was a delay in nominating the candidates and lapses in following the coalition dharma, he said.
Devegowda also said that the outcome of Lok Sabha elections will not have any impact on the JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the state.
Vijayashankar said that Devegowda mentioned only about Udbur village and the segment had 2,500 villages. “The JD(S)-Congress activists worked together in all other villages and I will win the polls.”
