Mysuru: The Nada Habba Dasara ended on a grand note on Tuesday with lakhs of people witnessing the Jamboo Savari procession, the finale of the 10-day Dasara festivities.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched the Vijayadashami procession by offering floral tributes to 'Nandi Dhwaja', during the auspicious Makara Lagna, at 1.46 pm, at Balarama Gate, on the premises of Mysuru Palace.
The CM, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, Minister H C Mahadevappa, Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra, Police Commissioner Ramesh Banoth, and Mayor Shivakumar took part in the grand finale.
The 10-day festivities began on October 15 and ended on October 24.
In all, 49 tableaux and 91 cultural troupes participated in the procession.
Seating arrangements were made for around 25,000 people on the Palace premises to allow them to witness the Vijayadashami procession.
All the enclosures were totally occupied by the people by 1 pm, to ensure they had a good view and to be a part of the famous Vijayadashami procession.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, a member of the erstwhile royal family, and ministers offered floral tributes to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari in the golden howdah at 5.08 pm.
Lead elephant Abhimanyu carried the 750-kg golden howdah. It is his fourth Jamboo Savari. He was accompanied by female elephants Vijaya and Varalakshmi as kumki elephants.
The police had made elaborate arrangements and security had been beefed up on the Palace premises and the 'Rajamarga' (Jamboo Savari) route to prevent any untoward incident.
The police department also made elaborate security arrangements right from the Palace to the Bannimantap grounds. More than 6,000 personnel were deployed on Dasara duty, ensuring that the festival concludes in a peaceful manner.
Meanwhile, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, scion of the erstwhile royal family took out a 'Vijaya Yatre', culminating the Sharannavaratri celebrations in Mysuru Palace, after the 'Vajramushti Kalaga' (fight of Jattis) culminated.
In all, nine elephants took part in the Dasara procession on Tuesday.
The torchlight parade, another attraction of Mysuru Dasara, will be held at Bannimantap ground at 7 pm. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will receive the guard of honour.
