According to the scheme, those poor and middle-class family members, who have sites in towns and cities, can avail loans from banks.

Housing department Secretary G V Kongavada stated in a press release that  persons interested to get benefits from the project can obtain application forms from offices of Karnataka Housing Board, Urban Development Authorities or from urban local bodies.

Loans for the scheme

Loans will be sanctioned under the scheme either to construct houses or to buy a built house. The Central Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Department has decided to extend the scheme benefit to 2 lakh beneficiaries in the state.

Accordingly, the state government has already sent circulars to implement the Namma Mane scheme in the state.  Kongavada informed that a beneficiary can avail loan to the tune of Rs 1 - 1.60 lakh to construct or buy houses in urban areas from banks under the scheme.

The government has decided to implement the scheme jointly through the Directorate of Local Administrations and the district administrations in the state, he added.

Selection Committee

Local bodies will create awareness on the scheme and collect applications from families. The list of beneficiaries will be prepared by a selection committee which will be chaired by Deputy Commissioners. Later, the list and recommendation will be sent to the banks.

Kongavada said that as per the circular, Deputy Commissioners will be the Chairman of the selection committee, while Sub Division Officers, Tahsildars, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers and Municipal Commissioners will be the members of the Selection Committee.

The Directorate of Local Administrations has directed various departments to take initiative to extend the benefits of various state government housing schemes to the beneficiaries so that the burden of repayment will be reduced further.

Nirmithi Kendras were asked to extend their co-operation to construct low -cost houses, in case the beneficiaries are willing to handover construction works to them, Kongavada informed.
