Speaking to media persons, team Members Ibrahim Kaleel and Arun Kumar, third year aeronautical engineering students, informed that the team secured 13th place in oral presentation round and 15th in design rounds, thus receiving 29th overall position out of 75 teams.

The overall position was decided only after flight rounds. Besides, the team also received critical appreciation from NASA’s next generation transport aircraft engineers for its system engineering report. The team received a certificate of completion from NASA headquarters.

The AeroMIT project was started in the end of 2009 and the team was successful in turning a mere concept into reality in time for the Aero Design competition which is celebrating its silver jubilee this year.

The competition was held in three categories, that is, regular, micro and advances. The MIT team entered regular class where the aim is to carry maximum payload, they added.
The AeroMIT team started on a high note with successful test flights at Cobb County Radio Control Modelers Club at Marietta.

The competition kick started with technical inspection and design presentation at Hilton Conference Centre in Marietta which the team cleared with great ease.

The plane was evaluated by judges from US space agency NASA, aircraft manufacturers Lockheed Martin, Gulf Stream and Dassault systems, Kumar informed.

The team consisting of Parth Khare (fourth year, aeronautical), Shekhar Jha, Samdarshi, Kumar Mrityunjay and Katayan Sinha (fourth year, mechanical), Karan Bhise, Ibrahimk Kaleel and Arun Kumar (third year, aeronautical) was guided by Professors Ramamohan Pai and Manikandan M from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering.

The project was sponsored by Aditya Birla Group and Anu Projects Consultants and Engineers. At present, the team is working to take part in SAE Aero Design West 2012 to be held at California from March 16 to 18, 2012. It has plans to enter two classes’ that is regular class and micro class, he added.
