“With nature being abused increasingly, global warming has reached unimaginable heights. There is no life for our earth if the situation continues,” said national president of People For Animals Maneka Gandhi.

She was addressing a gathering at National Convention for Environment Conservation at Pushpagiri near Halebeedu on Saturday.

Sharing her childhood experiences, she said, “When I was studying in Bangalore, temperature would be around 21 degree and now it is 31 degree. The drastic increase in the level of temperature is due to industrialisation.”

Continuing, she said,  “Sun rays which reach the earth have to reflect back. But the process is disrupted with change in environment which has caused damage of crops even.”

Also clashes between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu is just for reason of water, which does not seem a good development. A person makes use of 280 trees while he completes 40 years. But nobody tries to grow a tree.

Importance of trees

If one tree is destroyed, it is like wasting money saved in bank. People should develop habit of planting a sapling in turn of destroying a tree,” she said.

If tamarind is used since childhood, it strengthens teeth. Useful plants should be grown in front of our houses. Consuming animal meat not only produces methane but also affects nature, Maneka added.

Seer Somashekara Shivacharya graced the occasion while Ballur Umesh, district in charge V Somanna, MP Ananthkumar, Salumarada Thimmakka, MLA Y N Rudresh Gowda and others were present.
