Nitte University accorded a grand welcome to a 16-member student delegation from two North Eastern States --Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

The teams will be guests of Nitte University till February 2 as a part of the Nitte-Namaste Solidarity Programme (NNSP), a joint initiative of Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC) founded by P B Acharya, Governor of Nagaland and Nitte (Deemed to be University).

During their stay, the visiting delegates will attend career counselling sessions, workshops on entrepreneurship and employability and visit artisan and heritage villages to understand the lifestyle and practices of traditional Karnataka households.

They will be hosted by various local families for lunch and dinner. Informal interactions are planned for them. They will also go sightseeing to tourist places around Mangaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, Nitte Chancellor N V Hegde stressed the need for such initiatives to create an emotional connection with the NE states of India.

He stressed that the misconception that prevails in the minds of the people from North East India about being neglected and alienated must be removed through such programmes. "Such programmes need to be organised by educational institutions across the country," he added.
