The farmer leaders who put forth their demand in the meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner P C Jaffer here on Monday. They said the survey work should not begin till the compensation amount is fixed. Even compensation should be given for each coconut, mango and other fruit bearing trees on the land identified for the proposed expressway project.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha President K S Puttannaiah, leaders Nanjundegwoda, Federation Secretary B Bommegowda wanted the DC to convey their demands to the government.

He also pointed out that the court order had fixed ` 400 per sq ft for the farmers who have lost their lands for the construction of four-lane highway and according to that one gunta of land would be ` 4.35 lakh. Several farmers, whose lands are at stake also participated in the meeting.
