He was speaking at the inauguration of the Badminton, Table Tennis and Chess Tournaments organised by the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) and Mysore City Intercollegiate Tournaments Committee (MCICT) at NIE Diamond Jubilee Indoor Sports Complex on Monday. Addressing the participants, Dr Krishna said that talented sportspersons will excel on other fronts of life too. Suggesting students to make use of the available sporting facilities, Dr Krishna advised students to bring laurels to representing institutions.

Principal of NIE, Dr M S Shivakumar opined that good physique is necessary to develop intellectual ability. He said that earlier, sportsmen used to fight for funding, but now more grants are available for sports. He urged students to participate in more sporting tournaments.
