Ramanagaram Sessions Court Judge Hungund extended the custody of Nityananda on a plea by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), probing the charges, seeking custody for four more days.

Nityananda, embroiled in a sex scandal, was produced before the Judge amid tight security at the end of expiry of the four-day police custody granted on April 22, a day after he was arrested in Himachal Pradesh.

The CID in its remand application said the statement of victims, Gopika and Ranjitha, had not been recorded and that the police was also awaiting report from Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad, in connection with computer hard discs seized from Nityanand's ashram in Bidadi in Ramanagaram.
Nityananda's counsel H S Chandramouli opposed the CID's plea for extension of police custody.

His close aide Nitya Bhaktananda alias Seelam Reddy, who was also produced in court, was remanded in 14 days judicial custody.
The bail application of Nityananda is likely to be heard by the court on April 29.
Nityananda, who remained elusive for over a month after video clippings purportedly showing him in a compromising position with an actress were aired by TV channels, was nabbed along with his aide in a joint operation by Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh police teams in Solan district on April 21.
