Demanding the repair of road leading to Badibagilu, Orumbalu and Lavathadka in Noojibalthila village in Uppinangady, the residents have decided to boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The villagers have been demanding asphaltation of the road in Noojibalthila for the last several years. In spite of the promise, the mud road has not been developed so far. Over 100 families are dependent on the six-kilometre mud road to commute.

The mud road turns into a slush field during monsoon. While in summer, the dust emanating from the road inconveniences the pedestrians.

The residents had decided to boycott Assembly election in 2018. As the leaders from political parties promised to get the road done after the election, the boycott was withdrawn.

Sridhar Kampa, a resident, said, “We will not withdraw our decision till our demands are met.”

The residents of Madyadka Janata Colony at Kodimbala village in Kadaba too have mounted a banner informing the officials and political parties of boycotting of election.

In the banner, the villagers have demanded concrete roads, drains and to solve the row over electricity connections. They have also demanded waiving of pending water bills. The banner stated, “Elected representatives have not provided any facilities to the colony for the last 25 years.”
