However, his selection of the movie was also politically motivated. Deve Gowda watched ‘Prithvi,’ directed by Jacob Varghese, whose storyline highlights the current political scenario in Bellary.

The movie revolves around a deputy commissioner, who fights against the mining tycoons who hold high positions in the government. Puneeth Rajkumar plays the role of DC of Bellary district in the movie.

The film crew had arranged special screening of the movie for Deve Gowda at Renukamba studio. Gowda was accompanied by JD(S) spokesperson YSV Datta and a few others.

Corrupt politicians

After watching the movie Deve Gowda speaking to the media said the movie was a good attempt at unravelling the deeds of a few politicians, who have corrupted the entire political system to meet their selfish end.

Congratulating the film crew, JD(S) supremo said the role of the Deputy Commissioner would inspire thousands of people to fight against illegal mining activities. Without naming any politician, he said that the people of the State would teach ‘them’ a lesson in the next elections.

This movie would thus play an influential role in bringing about such a change among the people in the State, he added.  Deve Gowda seldom watches movies. The last time he watched a movie was ‘Chandra Chakori,’ produced by his son H D Kumaraswamy, said YSV Datta.
