The mortal remains of Hazel Jyotsna Mathias, the 28-year-old nurse who is said to have committed suicide in Saudi Arabia, will arrive in Shirva on Friday.

Family sources informed that Hazel, who had been working at the Al Miqua General Hospital in Abha, Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, reportedly committed suicide in the hospital’s residential quarters. The family was informed of her death on July 21, although she had last spoken to her husband Ashwin Mathias on July 19.

The family members were earlier informed by authorities in Saudi Arabia that Hazel was mentally tortured by an ambulance driver who was working in the same hospital. The driver was arrested by the police later.

Hazel had been working in the hospital for six years. Denis Noronha, a friend of Hazel’s family and also the power of attorney holder, had been striving against all odds to bring Hazel’s body to her native village.

The body was shifted to Bengaluru on Thursday in a flight. The funeral will be conducted at the Our Lady of Health Church in Shirva on Friday at 4 pm, the family sources said.
