District In-charge Minister U T Khader has charged that Opposition parties have failed to discharge their duty in the recent winter session of the state legislature in Belagavi.

Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, he accused the Opposition of disrupting the session over trivial issues on the last two days.

“Unable to digest the success of the session, the politically motivated BJP engaged in disrupting the session. The Opposition party did not even allow the discussion on the problems haunting North Karnataka,” he alleged.

He questioned the need to raise Tipu Jayanti issue when it was already observed in the state.

Khader urged the Union government to clarify on Rafale deal instead of misleading people. The people of the country have the right to know why HAL was bypassed to help Reliance Defence Ltd and why did the amount of the fighter flights escalate, he said.

He demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the issue.

The minister said that the pending appointment of chairpersons to boards, corporations, local authorities will be completed by January-end. Representation will be given to the Congress and JD(S) in the appointment, he said.

On the construction of 350 sqft houses for civic workers, Khader said, “The government has envisaged the project to provide a roof for those who do not have the roof over their head. The subsidy is given only for one-bed room houses.”

The Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation will discuss the issue and will write a letter to the Centre to bring in changes to the guidelines, he said.
