The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes has asked Panchamasali seers Jayamrutyunjaya Swami and Vachanananda Swami to appear before the body.
The Commission has issued a notice to the seer based on a petition filed by him seeking 2A reservation for the Panchamasali community. The seer has been told to appear before it on March 22 either in person or through an advocate and submit the necessary evidence and documents to validate the demand of the community.
The seer, it can be recalled, had taken out a padayatra from Kudalasangama in Bagalkot district to Bengaluru, seeking reservation for the community. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had ordered a study into the socio-economic status of Panchamasalis in February this year and has directed the Commission to submit a report.
