Panel to study jumbo corridor in Hassan

 The task force constituted by the High Court of Karnataka to study the areas affected by the human-elephant conflict, will visit Hassan district on Sunday. 

The team visited Nagarahole, Bandipur and Kodagu in the last three days. 

The members will stop over at Gundia region and also visit Maruthi Power Gen (India) Private limited at Kagneri and Kenchankumari reserve forests of Sakaleshpur range on Sunday.

The 12-member task force,  headed by Raman Sukumar of Indian Institute of Science, includes Basappanavar, a retired forest officer, Ajay Desai of Project Elephant Steering Committee and Elephant Task Force and Sharat Chandra Lele of ATREE.

The High Court had directed the task force to study all the aspects related to elephant conservation, restoration of elephant corridors, feasibility of translocation, clearing encroachment and linking fragmented forest lands.

 The deadline for submitting the report, which was earlier April 15, was extended to June end after the team sought more time.
