There are four main roads in the City - Sir M V Road, TPO Road, B B Road and M G Road. Vehicular movement on all the four has become a challenge due to unplanned parking of vehicles on both sides. The district administration has failed in traffic management and providing parking facilities. The problem is more pronounced on M G Road, particularly, the stretch leading to Shidlaghatta.

Vehicles are being parked at will from Shidlaghatta circle up to Sir M V High School. A bus shelter has been constructed at a short distance from the circle. But the buses stop only at the Circle, leading to traffic chaos. The drivers appear not to take the words of the police seriously. Thus congestion has become a major problem here. In addition, lorries park on road sides to unload goods for commercial establishments situated on the road, aggravating the problem. B B Road, which passes through the City was National Highway until the recent construction of bypass to NH-7. However, the bypass has not in any way reduced the vehicular density on the stretch. Parking on both sides of the road has been hampering free movement of vehicles.

Separate parking slots have not been designated for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles. Even footpaths are being encroached for parking as a result of which accidents have become common on this stretch.

Then Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav had directed the City Municipality to earmark separate parking slots for lorries and cars. However, he was transferred even as the proposal was being given effect to by calling a meeting of transport operators.

The situation is no different in Sir M V Road and M G Road. It is high time that a parking plan is formulated for this expanding City. A traffic police station is the need of the hour and the newly-posted SP should also give attention on easing the congestion on City roads.
