Tulu movie 'Pingara' won the national award for Best Tulu film, in the backdrop of the industry completing 50 years.
“I dedicate the award to the Tulu film industry,” declared 'Pingara' movie director R Preethan Shetty.
“In the past, ‘Paddayi’, and ‘Madipu’ Tulu movies had won the national awards. ‘Pingara’, produced in Kannada and Tulu, is yet to be released in theatres,” he added. “I had been working for the Kannada film industry for many years. I wanted to contribute something to my mother tongue. I selected an artistic subject and directed ‘Pingara’. This is the first movie that I have directed independently. I had not expected the award. I am happy that the film has been recognised at the national level,” he said.
Actor Sunil Nelligudda, who plays the lead role, said, “It is my luck that I got an opportunity to act in the movie. The character was challenging. I tried to infuse life into the character. I am happy that the movie has received recognition. It is a matter of pride for the Tuluvas.”
‘Pingara’ movie revolves around ‘Daivaradhane’ (spirit worship), beliefs, tradition and the culture around it. It also highlights the atrocities committed against women and discrimination. The movie was produced under DMK Productions.
