Police seize stolen cattle, 850 Kg beef

District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) sleuths seized six cattle that were stolen and transported illegally in a tempo, at Sonandoor Adthila in Poonjalkatte, on Thursday.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Ravikanthe Gowda said that DCIB, acting on a tip-off, chased and intercepted the vehicle with the stolen cattle.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle with the cattle by the roadside and fled in a car that was following them.

DCIB police have identified the suspects as Farooq Sajipa, a resident of Ammemmar; Jainu alias Jainuddin, Arafa and two other residents of Farangipet.

The Poonjalkatte Police have registered a case under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Section 66 of the 192(a) IMV Act.

Beef seized

In a separate incident, police seized 850 Kg of beef that was being transported illegally in vehicle and arrested two suspects, at Jakribettu in Bantwal on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, police checked vehicles and seized 850 Kg of beef being transported without documents.

Those arrested are; the vehicle's driver Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Thumbe Ramalkatte and Samseer of Bambila.

Interrogation revealed, that the beef was being transported to Central Market in Mangaluru for sale, said to SP Ravikanthe Gowda.

Abdul Jabbar was also involved in an illegal cattle transportation case at Charmadi three months ago, the SP added.
