The committee is expected to finalise its proposal in a couple of days and present the same to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission for its approval.
Energy minister Eshwarappa, on Wednesday, said the committee comprises senior officers of Energy and Finance Department. They would work out tariff chart for domestic, commercial and industrial consumers. The committee would directly submit the proposal to the KERC. “The KPTCL has no authority to revise power tariff. KERC has to decide,” he said.
In case of KSRTC or BMTC, the corporations could increase bus tariff as and when petrol prices go up. But the KPTCL did not enjoy that liberty, he said.
The minister said last year the government spent Rs 3,000 crore to purchase power as there was severe shortage. But this time the state could not go for power purchase spending so much. Moreover, power tariff had not been revised in the last four years. These factors would be taken into account while preparing the proposal, he said.
