Sharada Peeta in Sringeri is making all preparations for the installation of a 32 feet tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya at Maruthi betta in Sringeri.

The statue will be installed in Vidyaranyapura Gram Panchayat limits, situated one kilometre away from Sharada Mutt in Sringeri. Already, a Shankaracharya temple has been built outside the Sharadamba temple and puja is offered daily.

The work on installing the statue was taken up under the direction of Bharathi Theertha Swami and Vidhushekara Bharathi Swami.

Though the land was identified way back in 1993, owing to technical problems, there was a delay in the work.

The foundation for Shankaracharya statue installation was laid in 2013. Huge concrete pillars are being laid on the identified land. The work is being taken up at a cost of
Rs 15 crore. Along with the statue, the area will have a garden, museum, hall and musical fountain. Even a Hanuman temple will also come up nearby. The work has already commenced.

Sundaram Architects of Bengaluru is entrusted with the responsibility of installing the statue. The stone for sculpting the statue will be brought from Bengaluru.

Once the work is complete, the statue will be an added attraction at Sringeri for the visitors. All the works are likely to be completed by April-May, said sources in the mutt.
