Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of Ambedkar Jayanthi celebration on Thursday, the minister said capturing rogue elephants and shifting them to another place would only provide temporary solution to the existing problem. Therefore, there is a necessity to tame the rogue elephants. Talks have been held in this regard with the Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh, he informed.

“We have identified two rogue elephants in Kodagu. One of the elephants which was troubling the farmers in Maldare had disappeared for few days. The elephant which had moved to Nagarahole has retuned back to Palibetta. The elephant will be captured using 6 more tamed elephants and the process will be called as ‘Operation Palibetta’. We are also seeking the help of two veterinary doctors,” he said.

He also said that there are 5-6 such rogue elephants in Hassan district alone and the State accommodates 18 such elephants.

Those rogue elephants will be captured step by step, he informed.
