Condemning the delay in the rehabilitation of the flood-affected families in Nelyahudikeri, a protest will be staged in front of the DC’s office in Madikeri, on February 15, said Santrastara Horata Samithi president P R Bharat.
Addressing reporters here on Monday, he said that the district administration had promised that the families who had lost houses will be provided with rehabilitation, two years ago.
In Arekadu village, encroachments have been cleared and the trees have been felled. But, the district administration has been dilly-dallying in allocating sites for the victims, he said.
He further said that the officials from the electricity department have not provided electricity supply at the earmarked site.
“This has put the flood-affected families to great hardship. The work on the construction of the houses should be started at the earliest,” he said.
Nelyahudikeri Gram Panchayat member Safiya Muhammed said that years have passed since the land has been identified for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected, at Arekadu village. But, the work has not been taken up so far.
If the work is not started before the next monsoon, families of the flood victims will be in trouble. The district administration should expedite the work and avoid the flood victims taking shelter in relief centres in the next monsoon.
Horata Samithi members Sangeetha Thomas, Hamsa and Mani were present.
